About
Sailing in the Kop van Overijssel is a varied and rather different experience. This sailing area is easy to reach from the IJsselmeer, or (for example) from the Hanseatic city of Kampen. Various bodies of water, glorious nature and elegant towns at the water’s edge alternate and provide a unique backdrop for a day away with a group of friends, family members or colleagues. But this unique sailing area is also exceptionally well suited to trips spanning several days. In the Kop van Overijssel you can vary your sailing trip by paying a visit to a variety of fun towns where you can rent a bike to explore the surrounding area. Or you might wish to explore the centre of such towns as Zwartsluis, or Vollenhove on foot. En route you’ll put down anchor in a spectacular nature reserve. And at the end of a day’s sailing there will always be a new town to discover. You could even take a trip trip to one of the cities dotted around the IJsselmeer.

Sailing in the Kop van Overijssel
The Kop van Overijssel is a region in the north-west of the province of Overijssel. It is a magnificent sailing area featuring plenty of nature reserves, such as the IJsseloog island in the Ketelmeer, the ‘bird island’ in the Zwarte Meer or the marshy Weerribben National Park. All unique places to sail.
Discover a different city every day
The Kop van Overijssel has something great for everyone to experience. Cycling, walking, a visit to a museum, eating out in a good restaurant or, if you prefer, going for a swim in a beautiful nature reserve. There’s fun to be had by everyone here. The most well-known towns in the Kop van Overijssel are Kampen, Genemuiden, Steenwijk, Zwartsluis, Hasselt, Vollenhove and the old port town of Blokzijl. But you could also take a trip to Giethoorn, which is often called the ‘Venice of the North’.
Putting down anchor in a nature reserve
En route, in addition to unique cities you’ll come across some beautiful nature reserves where you can put down anchor and enjoy a delightful swim, canoe trip or walk along the side. But you could also stay put for a night and experience the Kop van Overijssel at its best: surrounded by nature.
