About
The fishery museum is centrally located in the old inland port of Zoutkamp in an old Dutch buoying hall. Find out more about the history and development of Zoutkamp's fishing industry and smell the combination of the smells of fish, tar, wood and diesel and take a trip back in time.
Fishery Museum
The museum is always open from April to November. It contains a permanent exhibition of ship models, tools, engines, fishing gear and more. There is also an annually changing exhibition, which is always about Zoutkamp, the sea and fishing. In front of the museum you can visit the historical ships ZK4 Albatros and ZK31 Neptun.
Since 1994 the museum is located in Zoutkamp and in front of the museum in the harbour is the intrepid working ship ZK4. The ship was actually built as a cargo ship, but as road transport increased, the ZK4 became superfluous. It was rebuilt to a fishing ship and until 2001 someone fished with the ship on the Waddensea. In 2002 volunteers brought the ZK4 to Zoutkamp.
In the museum itself you can also visit a real fishing boat, the Törn 2. Behind the museum there is a fishing house, which was demolished and rebuilt in 2006. Enter this fishing house where you can return to the time of Zoutkamp and the fishermen of the past. A guided tour, which is included in the entrance, is also offered and lasts about 1 hour. The tour must be booked in ahead. Furthermore, various arrangements can be booked, such as a trip on the ZK4 and ZK31 ships or a visit to the eel fishery in Zoutkamp.
