In Markermeerdijk is - quite inconspicuously - the Fort at Edam. This fort was built in the early 20th century as the northeasternmost part of the fortification of Amsterdam and housed 255 officers and men. Here you can Marvel at for example an officer's canteen, a field post office, the original kitchen, the ward, the telegraph office, soldiers quarters, and even a World War I trench.
