Museum Sloten is located in the former town hall of Sloten. This town hall was built between 1759 and 1761 so the building itself is already very impressive. The museum offers a surprising view of the city's history of Sloten with the showpiece of the council hall on the first floor; here you can watch the beautiful multimedia presentation 'Sloten, ideale stad'.
In addition to the first floor, the room also attracts much attention. Here the history of Sloten is shown in a bird's eye view. But of course the “bierschip” will not be skipped. In May of 1588 Pier Lupckes wanted to enter Sloten, but that was still difficult as the town was surrounded by strong fortress walls. Lupckes got two skippers so far to hide some of his soldiers in beer tanks along with their cargo of beer. Fortunately for Sloten, a watchful city guard stepped in and the attack was stopped.
In the attic of the museum you will find a collection of lanterns; devices that could project transparent images. Old resident Peter Bonnet had a great collection and these were collected in the museum after his death. Especially fun for the kids, they can experiment with the magic lights!
