The Theo Thijssen Museum is dedicated to Theo Thijssen (1879 – 1943), a writer, teacher, trade unionist and social democratic politician who was a native of Amsterdam and was primarily known as the author Kees de jongen. The museum contains manuscripts, first editions, photographs, drawings, video and audio material and Thijssen’s personal possessions. Besides this permanent collection, alternating exhibitions give an impression of daily life in the Jordaan at the end of 19th century, education at that time and socialism and the trade union movement in the first half of the 20th century.
